Case Study:

Westinghouse

All the pics on this page were graciously donated by Neil McRae.

This British Military Nr 2 stove was manufactured by Westinghouse Brake and Signal Co. Ltd. The sample is dated 1974.

Comment by Ross 'Spiritburner' Mellows:
"The model shown in your case study looks to be a No:2 Mark 2 (Modified). On these the front tap was blocked off & a side valve & silent burner fitted with cleaning needle. The old front valve was a pain to use & the burner was previously a roarer. Westinghouse was only one of many contractors that made this stove. The number is the catalogue number - NSN refers to NATO Stock Number. Big, heavy & ugly, these stoves can be unreliable & prone to rusting - the new diesel/avtur/kero burning No:12 is far superior."

The 'shelf' for dragging out the tank is practically unique.

It would have been nice to know if those are model or just identification numbers, and it would have been even nicer to know why the two last numbers were erased on one ticket but not the other.

Not exactly a backpacking item but very, very sturdy.

Note the tool.
