Coleman

Coleman M-500; picture donated by Ken Lundeen.

Website: http://www.coleman.com

The Coleman company was started in 1905 by W.C. Coleman as the Hydro-Carbon Light Company, initially producing lamps. The company name was changed to Coleman somewhere around 1915. Coleman has manufactured in Toronto ( Canada) and Wichita (Kansa, USA).

Coleman now owns three different portable stove brands; their own, Peak 1 and Campingas. They are also major manufacturers of lamps and have a long list of auxilliary camping equipment under their brand.

Be sure to check out the awesome 220-member discussion list of Coleman lamps and stoves at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/coleman

Kerolite is a Coleman site that focuses mostly on their lamps, but the restoration page is good and there's much information to be found in general.

The four main Coleman model series are the  4xx-series (white gas, mostly double or triple burners, suitcase-shaped), the 50x Speed Master white gas stoves, the 52x GI Pocket stoves after the M-1941 spec and the 53x GI Pocket stoves after the M-1950 spec. There are quite a few other models as well that differ substantially in design but are less common.
